Fine Persian Isfahan Silk and Wool Carpet – Mihrab Tree of Life Design, In The Form Of A Prayer, With Traditional Floral Motifs, Hand-knotted in Iran
The decoration of this carpet takes up traditional floral motifs that appear in 17th century carpets and in mosques, on old ceramics. Note the presence of a mihrab with floral and animal decoration that is often found on very old Isfahan rugs from the 16th and 17th centuries.
It is easy to recognize in the interlacing of the roses present on the field and on the borders, often knotted on these exceptional carpets.
The border, decorated with birds posed in branches and its counter-borders strewn with carnations are very sophisticated, so much the arrangement of the interlaces and the flowers is of great finesse as well as the associated nuances. The design of the central mihrab specific to the prayer rug or in the form of a prayer, and the motifs of the two spandrels at the top forming the dome, testify to great research. From the base of the niche adorned with two cranes springs up in the center a flowering tree of life, where many birds frolic.
